What Four Core Beliefs Drive Success Yet Hinder Change?
The four beliefs are:
- I have succeeded (I have succeeded, so clearly I can’t be flawed)
- I can succeed (I’ve done it once, I can do it again, why fix what isn’t broken)
- I will succeed (I’m sure I’ll find a way, even if my current behaviors are unsustainable or ineffective)
- I choose to succeed (I’m not willing to believe that I’ve chosen the wrong path)
Each belief powers achievement but also creates blind spots that make behavioral change difficult.
Metaphor
These beliefs are like the bumpers on a bowling lane you used as a kid. They kept the ball out of the gutter back then, but now they block you from learning the skill of throwing straight.
In the same way, success-fueled beliefs once protected your progress but now keep you from the precision that change demands.
