What Does “I Have Succeeded” Look Like in Practice?

Successful people run a mental highlight reel, focusing on wins and editing out failures, which sustains confidence and optimism. They routinely overestimate their share of success and compare themselves favorably to peers, making corrective feedback hard to accept.

Metaphor

It’s like a sports team only replaying their winning goals on the jumbotron. The constant loop of highlights keeps morale high but hides the missed shots and sloppy plays.

In practice, this makes accomplished people more resistant to feedback that contradicts their polished self-image.
