How Does “I Will Succeed” Lead to Overcommitment?

Unflappable optimism drives people to pursue many opportunities and say yes too often, leaving them “drowning in a sea of opportunity.” Overcommitment then becomes a common excuse for failing to implement intended behavior change.

Metaphor

“I will succeed” is like walking into an all-you-can-eat buffet with bottomless confidence and piling your plate higher than gravity intended. The belief in endless capacity blinds you to limits, turning abundance into overload.

That’s why optimism without restraint often morphs into overcommitment, leaving no room for real change to stick.
