What makes focusing only on outputs especially harmful?
It’s harmful twice over: first by ignoring customer needs, and second by forcing teams to maintain and support work that adds no real value.
Metaphor
Focusing only on outputs is like buying a treadmill you never use. Not only does it fail to get you fit, but now it’s also taking up space, collecting dust, and reminding you of wasted money.
Likewise, teams not only miss customer value but also burden themselves with ongoing support for wasted work.
