How Do Rivalry and Legacy Concerns Trigger Real Change?
Tying change to self-defined stakes—such as not letting a rival “win” or avoiding a negative legacy modeled by one’s children—creates immediate, personal reasons to act differently. When what people truly value is threatened, they move.
Metaphor
Legacy and rivalry are mirrors, not motivators. They reflect who we fear becoming or being outshined by. When that reflection stings, change stops feeling optional.
