Why Can Projects Fail Even If Delivered on Time, Budget, and Scope?

A project can still fail if the product does not meet user needs or expectations. Focusing only on outputs without considering outcomes risks building products that users do not value.

It’s easy for teams to fall into the habit of measuring success by tasks completed rather than value created. The habit is so widespread it has its own alias: delivery mode.

Metaphor

Delivering a project on time, within budget, and to scope, but still failing, is like throwing a perfectly planned surprise party where nobody shows up. All the logistics went right, but the real goal (people having fun) never happened.

Success isn’t about checking boxes on delivery metrics; it’s about creating outcomes people actually value.
